COP26
#1
I mean... I'm all for saving the planet... but this COP26 is bollocks isn't it.

Just politicians and billionaires flying in... driving round in motorcades... just to spout some bollocks and then fly off again.

Even the Queen said they just turn up, say what we want to hear, then bugger off and actually do nothing.

Biden insists the U.S. is ready to lead the globe on climate.  Yet, it would have to pass Congress and not a single Republican in Congress is interested in doing anything about climate change (e.g. Senator Marco "I"m not a scientist" Rubio, R-FL).  Even Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) is opposing Biden's climate plans because of his own investments in the West Virginia coal mining industry.  (He's a multi-millionaire)
In Congress it's D.O.A.
Get your air conditioners and move if you live on the ground floor of your building.  And move away from the coast.
Alaska will be looking good not too many years down the road.

China and Russia haven't even bothered to attend.

It's rant time - After the day I have I need to.

Everything on the TV at the moment is all about stupid climate change.
The news and even the soaps are doing it. Not everyone is interested in climate change. It is pathetic.

I don't even know why we pay TV licence for the crap on tv.

Im going to say it and I don't care - I hate with a passion that stupid little girl - Greta Thunberg. She wants to go back to Sweden and back to school / college. Or even get a job if anyone will take her. I know that I wouldn't if I was a boss.

I even hate those protesters such as insulate Britain blocking the roads - Hope they get run over. And that rebellious gang. They all want to grow up and get jobs instead of taking to the streets and sprouting rubbish about stupid climate change. No one is interested in it.

Rant over.
Note to self - Breathe again.

JCarter??

That said, I'm sick to the back teeth of the hypocrisy relating to this summit.

I wish we could ban climate change deniers like this from everything unless and until they can prove they have learned better.

Let's wait and see.

As for Russia and China, the leaders haven't attended, but I think that the countries are represented.

Hard to know what to say to Sexylad67 excerpt that climate change is real and scary. It may not yet be affecting the UK much so far, but its certainly affecting other countries.

Greta might be annoying but she's done an amazing job in putting the issue higher on the agenda. I have mixed feelings about the likes of Insulate Britain.

We knew that Russia and China wouldn't turn up because their leaders don't care and they have very high carbon emissions which would be impossible to bring down so that meant false promises.

I only care about the UK. The UK must come first and we shouldn't be paying other countries lots and lots of money. I heard it was like 3 trillion to poorer countries. Its a joke. We should let someone else pay for it. The UK is already in debt because of China virus and the economy falling. We should be paying that back instead of giving our money to elsewhere.
Let sleepy Joe pay the bill. Laughed when I saw on news that he was falling asleep. Just shows how boring it was and what a dementia old fogey leader he is.

Yeah she is annoying everywhere on the TV its greta this greta that. I'm like shut up man and put some real good programmes on.

The whole concept seems to be more about virtue signalling. E.g. First world countries that make up just a single % of global emissions seem determined to trash their industries and make the poorest members of society even poorer due to policies such as “no gas boilers/petrol cars”. So the Third world and the biggest polluters can sit back and do fuck all.

No-one, not even Insulate Britain has given a minute’s thought to how heat pumps are meant to be paid for. Let alone for the poorest members of society.

Meanwhile, my boiler’s broke, so I’m all electric at the moment. In fact, I’m using 2-3 times as much electric to heat my home as usual. So how can we be sure there’ll be enough electric to go round if we all ditch gas boilers?? Whilst charging our cars and buses??

We might need another 20GW of generating capacity. That’s another 7 Hinkley Points. Or in other words, nuclear power will be the only option on cold winter days.

I think heat pumps is the Tory solution.
Insulate Britain would like to, erm, insulate Britain.

From Cameron Ford writing in The Guardian 27th Oct
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...crete-2030
Providing the funding to insulate homes is a no-brainer: it rapidly cuts CO2 emissions, keeps people warm and reduces the amount they need to spend on heating, and could create thousands of new jobs in the process. In fact, the best insulated homes require virtually no heating at all. Instead of faffing about with heat pumps, the government could be taking the steps right now to reduce our dependence on heating in the first place.

Seems like you're in serious danger of agreeing with the progressive left, Tory boy   Tongue

As good as insulation may be, they still require a heating source. Wink

I think we should ditch Energy Performance Certificates, they really are a load of crap.

The money saved from that can go towards insulation materials and installation costs.

First and foremost is saving the planet long term.  Whatever it takes now.
Then fix whatever local problems that causes while not losing focus on the long term.
Is that difficult to understand?

Think large, not small.

The better the insulation, the less heating required. That's the main point. I believe a passive home would require minimal/none (i think I saw one on Grand Designs once with no heating system) but would probably at the minute, need to be built and designed rather than achived by retrofitting. I'm not sure.
Either way it's still a saving on heating bills and a reduction in energy usage something which heat pumps alone (with current tech) won't produce.

It's not a free market solution though and won't generate wealth for many investors (unless they can get a load of mates to start up insulation businesses), so it's no wonder the Tories are reluctant to shell out for it. Tech competition and free market forces to make world beating heat pumps, that'll be the Tory solution.  Meanwhile the planet and the poorest in this country pay.

It’s all a bunch of hypocrites working out how to actually help themselves in the name of “saving the planet”. Of course, if climate change didn’t exist, woolly mammoths would still be walking the earth and everything would still be frozen. The question is just how much of an impact we as a race can have - undoubtedly some, but we’d be foolish to think that climate change is wholly down to human activity, so there’s only a limit on what we can do.

I was happy to see the likes of Brazil agreeing to do their part to stop deforestation though. I think that’s the biggest problem, especially when it comes to the Amazon. Now if they’ll stick to their promise is a totally different matter, and one which sadly I don’t hold out much hope for. We’ve seen how a country like the US can agree to anything, then rip up said agreement when it suits. Money always comes first.

Well at least 19yrs olds can focus on the real issues at stake in the UK at the moment such as people on benefits, more social housing, less immigration and better education.

Those are what the government needs to focus on and NOT climate change.
US 19yrs old can probably run the government better than old fogeys and Paraifal - Who ever you are.

For me and people I know they have said that - they and I don't care about C.C  as long it don't affect us we are not interested. That is our view and opinion.

If anybody don't like it or disagree - then They can jog on and piss off.
