I agree.

I'm using W11 right now. It's very nice. First reaction, it's very much like a slicker update to W10 tbh. it didn't require a clean install or system overwrite, just came in like a regular feature update. So far I like it very much!

There is a pane on the Windows 11/app download page that does tell you if you’re OK. But didn’t seem to work unless you’d downloaded the app first.
I’m sure this happened a few years back with Vista, or something.

That must be a Beta?? Thought it hadn’t officially launched yet??

Argos and Currys have laptops and desktops that are ready to get Windows 11. When 11 is ready to download.
Just need to look for the right one for you to buy

Oh I thought we're still running Beta on Windows 10.

So many apps seem to run that way these days. You can never tell.

Beta on Windows 10, I guess that's why there was constant updates, and Windows 10 was meant to be the last one

Decided to go ahead and order a Mac mini. So far so good. Then I realised I had to upgrade every USB cable.
Not because they’re incompatible, but they’re either not long enough with the new set-up, or I won’t have enough ports.
My current PC sits on the floor, around ½-metre from the printer, has two USB ports up front, and four round the back. Which I’ve come to feel is fairly standard.
The Mac will only have just two ports around the back. It’s also more like 2m from the printer, as it’ll be sitting on the desk (around the same size as a set-top box).
Then, I’ve decided to keep the PC plugged in for the time being, because it should continue to work until it gets superseded. But I can’t have the PC speakers plugged in. I haven’t got enough sockets.
And that’s before I’ve even thought about getting a video switch, or a wireless keyboard and mouse if I want to keep using the PC. Because the old keyboard and mouse are going to be used with the Mac.
I feel like poking my eyes out…

They were good in 1984.
But so was the ZX Spectrum.

I dunno. I think, new decade, new approach. Windows doesn’t seem particularly user-friendly, in fact it never has.
The whole reason Windows 11 is being toughened up is because PC’s have so many security loopholes in them.
Not saying that Apple is free of that, but it must be harder to code malware for an alternative system that’s not used quite as widely.
Besides which, I’ve gotten used to the Apple feel and infrastructure for a long time now. Maybe I associate more with it now than before??
The only aspect of the transition I’m not so proud of… is to keep using Office apps.

Apple have got a 9.5% OS share, while Windows about 87.5% share.
I've sort of thought that if you were going to attack a bunch of laptops/desktops, going for Window will be more damaging than doing malware/hacking Apple.
Apparently cash machines are running on Windows XP, which has stopped being updated 13 years ago.

I know they are, I’ve seen them when they’ve crashed. And some auto checkouts too.
Even the time clock at work uses Windows CE.
My new monitor is huge!! 24 inches.
I bought it ‘cos I needed an HDMI model.

Nah, a 19” LCD widescreen (13 years old). But it only had a VGA port.
New one’s got both.

Mine is 23" (diagonal) and don't think of it as particularly huge.

Well, it’s all relative. It’s like having a tv set on your desk - not unwelcome, or unreasonable, but just shows how times have moved on.
Watching YouTube vids on it seems slightly strange - the aspect ratio is enormous, so the vids look really patchy and grainy if they’re not HD.
Much better for work/browsing documents though.
