My students at the university asked me what my favourite film was and I had to say SNAKES ON A PLANE from 2006!
They seemed quite shocked expecting me to nominate something much more erudite but I told them that having to answer their challenging questions on a daily basis I deserved to treat myself to some gratuitous violence!
You can Google the film but basically somebody unleashes a whole load of snakes onto a plane and they end up eating everyone!
Watched this on TPTV last night and it was great (and gruesome).
It's directed by Sidney Lumet (who also made the brilliant Dog Day Afternoon) and Connery is perfect in it. Sometimes I forget just how good an actor he could be and this was a timely reminder.
Trevor Howard pops up too and is good (if somewhat booze-sodden by that stage of his career), but sadly the sound quality of the print wasn't great in his scenes with Connery. The while film could probably do with a remaster at some point, but it's well worth watching when it inevitably crops up on TPTV again in a few weeks time.

Despite the presence of the lovely Luke Macfarlane and the iconic Jennifer Coolidge (in a sub-plot that has no bearing on the main plot) this is merely OK. The actors do a good enough job and there is some chemistry between the main leads, it just doesn't go beyond the friends-to-lovers trope. Still, there are sooo many movies in general that are bad, it wouldn't be fair to expect every movie with a gay leading couple to be a cinematic masterpiece. Having movies focusing on gay characters in itself ìs a good thing so I still enjoyed it if only because it adds to gay representation in the movies.
Final Christmassy movie of this year I think and this was by far the worst of the lot. The storyline didn't make all that much sense, the cast didn't really work very well together and - most surprising of all - there was very little chemistry between the two male leads. This despite the fact that they are married in real life.

Based on the comments on that trailer not a lot of people liked the movie, but I did and not just because of Luke Macfarlane.
I watched this last night. In several places I was tempted to FF.
I related to the story in several ways, but you don't have to make a movie out of it (although the movie embellishes reality for some "lift"). On a more human level this kind of situation happens all the time. Nothing special here. I thought the script was rather shallow and was more about being political rather than being about a slice of life. Also very corny is places with a couple of tear-jerking moments. Very predictable. I suppose you have to give some license for being a rom-com.
Billy Eichner's character (Bobby) I found to be annoying. In real life I would have dropped him the minute he opened his mouth. Luke Macfarlane (Aaron) is very handsome but is too much of a clone with his overdone pecs and six-pack. (It's a stretch to see the two as a "match")
An upside of the film is that there is lots of shirtlessness (obviously recruited from the local gym).
One scene that gave me a good laugh (it is a rom-COM afterall - not a spoiler) is when Bobby is chatting with a guy on Grindr who insists that Bobby show him a pic of his ass. When he does the other guy looks at it and immediately blocks him. Probably the most realistic scene in the whole film.
This was honestly terrible. The script was bad, the acting was bad; the director couldn't make up his mind whether to make a thriller or a horror movie. There was one scene that I liked and that worked, otherwise this was a waste of time.
This script didn't make a lot of sense either, but at least the movie was funny-ish. Jennifer Coolidge steals almost every scene that's she's in. She's too young to play Josh Duhamel's mother because she's only 11 years older than him but at least she got a scene with a semi-automatic rifle (she could've used that in White Lotus season 2). It reminded me a bit of Romancing the Stone, but it's not quite in that league. Entertaining but not outstanding.
