Trump / Biden
#61
I have a theory that in the week preceding the election, Trump will announce that he has cured the 'Chinese Virus'. The Maryland vaccine will go in to mass production.

Manufacturing, distribution and administration, will take many months. He will bank on the fact that trials will complete in that time, but won't really care whether it is approved or not. He just wants a soundbite which will sway the polls because he will be promising an end to uncertainty and restrictions the Dems would place upon Americans.

*Takes off tinfoil hat*

*Puts tinfoil hat back on*

I also think that that last night's address could have been recorded at the beginning of the pandemic, to be released in the event he tested positive. A way of reassuring the nation should he be unable, or not appearing fit enough to do so.

The scammer-in-chief is never at a loss of creative tricks to throw into the ring.  He is a survivor, gotta give him credit for that.

Meanwhile the White House, and the West Wing in particular, has turned into a petri dish for the virus.  It's a place with a work environment ruled by fear and workers there were ridiculed if they wore a mask.  Now they're knocking off left and right.

They're dropping like flies. I'm can't see through the fog relating to 45 specifically. Did he actually need treatment? Is he unscathed and demanded treatment regardless? It seems early to have been having complications and breathing difficulties to be requiring an antibody infusion. As always, very murky.

Maybe the MD on here can respond to that.

Trump is well-known to have a long history of aversion to hospitals and medical treatment. There is no way he would have agreed to go to Walter Reed just ‘out of an abundance of caution’.

We know why he went when he went.  It was put to him in these terms: he could either go while he could be seen walking to the helicopter, or they could wait and he risks being photographed unable to walk, in a wheelchair or on a stretcher.

Look, if you are looking for someone to blame, blame China ???. Instead of good innocent people etc - the great president trump or PM Boris Johnson who have worked hard to keep lives safe and protect their country.

China and the WHO are covering up on what really happened.

China created this virus and released this deadly chinky virus who has killed millions of people in the world.

China should have the book thrown at or even better why don't they pay for everything on what THEY CAUSED.

People who say different are a fucking clueless dumbfucking pig.

Obvs they know jackshit about anything. Why don't you go back to school, oh sorry schools are closed because of the chinky virus.

People who agree - stay safe.

Unbelievable! I assumed they were a troll trying to get a reaction at first. Now I think they actual believe the bile they're spewing. Sad. 4/5 years ago, I would have said that the world was becoming a more tolerant place. Now, it's evident people were just in hiding and it's going in the other direction. People feel emboldened to be as bigotted as they choose and follow the example of world leaders who are equally repugnant.

Ha. Giving air to nutjobs is how we got to fascism here. They need to go back under the rocks from whence they came.

No.  Fascism came from intelligent reasoning people who were evil.
A nutjob is a nutjob, pretty harmless really.
Trump is not a nutjob (although I do think that he belongs in a mental hospital rather than the White House, prison would suit him too).  All of his scams were well-reasoned.  He's just extremely self-centered to the point that it includes cruelty and evilness (and aspiring authoritarian).

I'm sorry, yes, it is of course a combination. Giving the intelligent cynics the both sides treatment is how we got here. They empower other cynics and use the true believers as foot soldiers.

A lot of the truly evil don't believe anything they say (and truth is incidental to fascism anyway) but they know they can use it all the same to gain power. Trump's a bit of both. I don't believe he's the moron a lot of liberals think he is; he just isn't interested in being presidential or following the precious norms we've been convinced are so important.

I DO believe he has if not naked racism, a dismissive view of any nonwhite nonmale person. Clearly he doesn't mind gays unless they have AIDS. And oddly enough, unlike evil WASPs of the past, he doesn't mind Jews. Usually they get hung up on that.

It's my understanding that Trump doesn't realize that he lies.  It's the only thing he knows and the only thing he has ever done.  He simply says what he has to say in the moment to gain benefit.  He thinks that is normal.  (And then he has hangups about being weak, which he is.)

Fine as a sentiment, but continuing along the lines as you propose is proven to be harmful and damaging.  After all, it doesn’t matter whether Putin’s agencies and other right-wing organizations hire/ enlist volunteers who are true believers versus those just looking for a pay check.  The trolling they do is the same.  No one believes the work of Putin’s trolling minions shouldn’t be removed.

Who cares what the real circumstances of jackass sexylad67 are?  When such messages are repeated often enough, the weak minded believe. It’s that simple.

We may need clarification for "nutjob".
I don't see Trump's base as nutjobs (similarly for Putin's followers?). I know some very intelligent people who are Trump supporters. I don't see them as nutjobs.
But sexylad67 certainly comes across as one.

That's an important distinction!

The nutjobs, as I define them, are the same as true believers: your QAnons, your COVID-hoaxers, your birthers, etc. The ones who believe the lies and/or want to take America "back." Then there are the cynics, who peddle the same talking points but don't care about the truth as long as it serves their interests. Mainly wealth hoarding and power grabbing.

That also frees me to agree with jdcyl: whether believed or not, the storyline is dangerous and cannot be treated as a legitimate counterpoint to rational thought. After all, most Republican talking points are made in complete bad faith.

You also make a great point that appears lost on the general thought of liberals. Some intelligent people like Trump. It's lazy and dangerous to dismiss his support as stupid. I've even seen some liberals peddle "brain wiring" as a reason for Trump support. It's so much simpler than that: a great deal of the country, regardless of reason, like the results Trump is getting.

After all, if Trump and his team are all a bunch of idiots, what does that say about the Democrats who cannot stop him?

He's certainly not giving a good impression for the average intelligence of the Trump supporter.

I think it's that some people can't believe intelligent, "civilized" people can be cruel for the sake of their own desires. They can and they are. Intelligence isn't the point of any of it. "Winning" is.

Pure rationality would mean we'd have stopped fossil fuel use decades ago, given everyone healthcare, recycled everything, etc. Greed simply motivates these fuckers more than intelligence.

Maybe it's just me, but I regard "not opposing Trump" and "not realizing Trump is evil" as putting you into the category of "those who must not be listened to and not given a chance to speak".

It's all about the ranking of values.
Many "intelligent" Trump supporters stand with him because he delivers (with Mitch McConnell's help) conservative judges. That's more important to them than the cruelty of separating children from their families at the border even though they may abhor that.
