Coronavirus
Complicity. We should be a bit ashamed.

COVID update: almost completely recovered, I think. The elevator's not working in my building so I've had my dogs out twice. Having to descend and ascend nine flights. I deserve a medal.

In addition, my new bedframe has been delivered and without an elevator I don't know what to do about it.

An economist whom I once met (British) said that the only way that we'll bring about real change is through the barrel of a gun.  I some times wonder if the R-word (you never know who or which scanning program reads this stuff), 1789 or 1917 style, is the only solution.  France turned out ok, Russia not so well.  It all lies in a country's history.

Now, coronavirus. Big Grin
In what may be a sign of things to come, the NYC restaurant City Winery (Pier 57) will soon require customers to take a rapid COVID-19 test at the door.  That will be $50 please.
Apparently the test will be required only on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but not Thursday through Monday. Confused

Update...

Christmas in the UK is cancelled again.

Update..

No it isn't. You can have 4 families round.

Update..

Now its 3 families round. And we'll probably be in lockdown all January again. Or dead.

They’ll be sending the scary traffic warden with the shotgun round. You know, with the bandages over his eyes... Spooky

I can't wait to see how we handle Christmas here.

UPDATE...

You can now have 4000 people round for Xmas dinner. Or something. But charades is banned. I think.

Pubs are opening if you buy Cheese & Onion crisps. But not Ready Salted.

Gyms are opening but not Cinemas. Because in cinemas you sweat and pant a lot whereas in gyms you just sit quietly socially distanced. Or something.

Its all making perfect sense.

Why wait?  With hospitalizations lagging about two weeks behind testing positive, the 100,000-200,000 per day that have been testing positive will soon have ICUs completely swamped well before Christmas.  And with the infection rates out of control, many millions of Americans are still going to travel for Thanksgiving to make sure their families get infected, too.  America must literally be dying to see what it’s like to have hospital workers drop from exhaustion, so no one gets medical care for anything anymore.

Trump has announced a White House Christmas party (large crowd, no masks).
With good luck we'll be rid of them all soon. Big Grin

I want it on record here and now that I have always had this thought in the back of my head that nothing would properly change in the US permanently unless "half the nation died somehow in one fell swoop". I've been telling people this for over 25 years. However, I want to make it clear that I didn't actually think it would happen because it sounds so outlandish. At the rate we're going, if we didn't have what seems to be a viable vaccine, 3 really, coming in the next few months, my exaggerated prediction might have come true just from sheer human stupidity and illogical behavior based on irrationality.

Given how it's going so far, half the country dying won't change a thing.
