I can see the issue with this being a smartphone app. I have to hold my hand up and admit I don't have one - I'm quite happy to get by with my 15 year old Nokia PAYG,
Now, of course I can get a smartphone, but they'll be many who can't afford it, older people who just don't want it etc etc. It's like track and trace over again - there has to be a better way,

One might have naively hoped that gay men would dislike terms of prejudiced, mindless abuse.
With gammon, all bets are off,

I'm one of those people who can't afford a smart phone. I have to use the government program that gives you a free phone, albeit a really old one BTW, to have a phone at all.

Ok so so far the only justifications for “vaccine passports” are that they might work with a type of vaccine that isn’t used AT ALL in the uk and that another, much smaller country with a dramatically different culture and much more competent government have managed to make it work. Gotcha.
Just remember in the uk this system will be controlled by borris, headed up by mat Hancock and almost certainly given to Dido Harding to actually administer along with billions of pounds of taxpayer money.
.... or we could just all hold back for a few weeks extra until more people are fully vaccinated, keep wearing masks in crowded areas & taking a few really basic precautions so that we can remove the government idiots & gambles from the equation completely.
I’m still keen to hear from anyone who can show me how vaccine passports would actually work in the uk though- I like the principle but in the real world they look as practical as selling unicorn food.

As I said in my OP. I think the principle is a good idea.
My only misgivings is that if anybody could fuck it up technically and logistically, HM Government can.
For example - Track and Trace.

What principle? Introducing certificates to a mostly vaccinated population to protect from what? And how are you going to deal with the children and pregnant women possibly being turned away from places now because they will not be vaccinated? Being a nodding Churchill dog for any moronic Boris idea is easy but then comes the problem of having to actually think.

No objections at all.
If they don't come in the I would not be surprised to see individual businesses making vaccination a requirement of entry / travel etc. and making this decision on economic grounds.
For example - if I wanted to fly to Spain and had the choice of Airline A - must have had vaccine or Airline B - no restrictions I would rather choose option A

Simple.
In classic JCarter mode.
I'm not pregnant or a child thus I don't give a monkeys.
And large parts of the planet are introducing these or already have. We're pretty late to the party. So not really a 'moronic Boris idea'

Forgive the nationalist in me: moronic world idea then. Whenever a stupid idea is adopted in any part of the world you can always rely on even Boris to sometimes be last in that race.
