Census 2021

Quote:Yep for Scotland it’s been delayed until 2022 so you can enjoy your “phase” lol (it’s still this year for the rest of the UK).

I can relax now as i'm in Scotland but in any case i'm still a middle aged raving homo   Yipee Yipee

Difficult to understand why the Scottish census was delayed. It’s not as if Scotland’s been affected worse than other areas.

But it has happened before (Northern Ireland had a census in 1926, but not 1931).

AFAIK, the electoral roll isn’t plugged into any other databases. And it’s organised separately by each council area, so it doesn’t update or interact with any other systems.

Ideally you’d have a population register (like they do in Norway and other countries), so if you wanted to move address or change your name, you’d have to do it that way.

But that gives too many MP’s and journalists nightmares so they keep speaking out against it. The closest thing we’ve got is DWP’s Customer Information System.

£1000 fine for you darling. Rolleyes LOL

One thing I didn’t get - who decided whether Census entries are “genuine” or not?? Surely only once they’ve been scanned on the system - but that’s far too late.

I was never given any guidance about that; the emphasis is on getting the forms back, and that’s hard enough.

Well saying as last time, out of thousands who didn't bother to complete it, they convicted I think 4 people... then I'll betcha they prosecuted precisely zero people for filling it in fraudulently

The results are in...

Just over 3% of people in England & Wales declare themselves to be LGBTQ+
Although if you add the people who declined to answer the question (which some commentators claim to be mostly closeted gay/bi people as straight people would just answer the question) that number rises to around 10%.

Rochford in Essex is the straightest place in the UK
Brighton the gayest.

Rochford has a population of 8,471 (2011 census).  That may not be a valid sample for measuring the straightest place in the UK unless such "straightness" extends further to a wider area.  With such a small population I wouldn't be surprised if all of the gay boys absconded leaving the town the straightest place in the UK.

Meanwhile, Brighton with 277,103 (2021 census) constitutes a realistic sample.

it's not a sample, it's the census, it's we've actually asked everyone in the country and these are the results. There are literally,  not estimated from a sample, 1.6% of the population in Rochford identifying as LGB+

You're correct.  Wrong choice of word on my part.  One locale has a population of 8,471 while the other has a population of 277,103.
I'd be more interested in the tanking of gayness among cities with a population of, say, 100,000 or more.  Again, Brighton would come out on top, but who would be at the bottom of that list?  I can't imagine any town/village with a population of 8,000 being very gay-friendly.

On this site all I hear from gays living in small towns/villages is about how there is no opportunity and an unwillingness to come out (i.e. gay-unfriendly locale). Tongue

Well there's Hebden Bridge, famously.
All the stat was comparing was percentage of people willing to identify as LGB+ on paper. What is interesting is that even in the least gay place with a population of only 8000ish, there are at least 100 (135 if population data is up to date) other people with a queer identity. Which it doesn't always feel like when you're in that place. Smaller town pride events are becoming more of a thing recently when they used to be more confined to bigger cities.

Of course cities remain a pull for gay people looking for more choice and opportunities, especially university towns and cities cause that's the easiest route out for most young people, who feel they need one.

But the data's here, fill your boots:

How the hell can they say it’s an accurate reflection when 3.5m people did not answer the question?? Seriously.

That could be a large LGBT slice of the population - not recorded.

That means there could be nearly 5 times more gay people than originally thought.

Only ¾m people (myself included) were willing to own it. That’s extremely disappointing. Dodgy

I recall it saying that those who did not respond could reasonably be assumed to be LGBTQ+ because straights are most likely to respond as such.
So just add the two together. Wink

There is also the very real possibility that some people refused to answer it on the basis that they disagree with being asked in the first place.  So it reasonable to assume they were either closeted LGBTQ+ or vehemently anti LGBTQ+.

Of course, after a bottle of vodka these two groups become one.
