There’s press peculation that Jodie Whittaker will leave Dr Who after the next series. Bookmakers quote the following as favourites, in order, to take over the role:
Michaela Coelho
Richard Ayoade
Phoebe Waller-Bridge
Jodie Comer
John Boyega
Kris Marshall
Reece Shearsmith
Ben Wishaw
Idris Elba
Of the above, I’d opt for Ben Wishaw or John Boyega. I also rather fancy Russsell Tovey but then I’ve always fancied Russell Tovey.
Who would like to see in the role?

Would 100% start watching it if Russell Tovey got the job!

Thats who I think it will be... not want it to be.
Haven't watched any of the past 2 seasons. Since they ruined it.

Why? Because The Doctor is a woman?
I've enjoyed her tenure.

I stopped watching halfway through Capaldi's tenure. I thought he was great, but the scripts got worse and worse, and I couldn't be arsed watching something I didn't enjoy anymore.
What was Whittaker like - any good?
As for the contenders...given Idris Elba's frankly bollocks acting in those godawful Sky adverts, I'm beginning to think The Wire was a fluke, so hopefully he won't get it. Hmm...starting to realise I don't actually care who gets it as I can't see myself watching it anytime soon. Shame,

Agree
It died half way through Capaldis stint. Although I think he's a brilliant actor and perfect for the role, the scripts were terrible. It had turned into a pantomime.
And although I don't agree with making the Doctor a woman.. with the right woman I'd have given it a go. But I thought Whittaker was dreadful in everything she'd been in before DW and couldn't see her being a good doctor. I wasn't enjoying the show anymore.. it was just ruining everything I thought of as 'Doctor Who'
Everything I've heard and read about the show in the past 2 years leads me to think I made the correct decision.

Yes,I have lost interest in the past few years, but thought the seasonal spec. with the 'old enemy' fairly passable and recently heard Michael Sheen has been making some unofficial pitches for the role,so it might get interesting,if this gain any traction.

I doubt they can afford him these days.
Although they still say its the jewel in their crown, the Beeb seem intent on doing it on a Blue Peter budget these days.

I quite like the idea of Russell Tovey, it would a good link back to the Tennant era. I also think Stephen Mangan would be an interesting choice.
