I Kissed a Boy
BBC Three
#1
Quote:Get ready for the UK's first gay dating show, with pop icon Dannii Minogue playing cupid. Dannii has welcomed ten single guys to Italy to stay in a beautiful country house called the Masseria. Before the summer of love starts, the boys are matched up based on what they're looking for in a partner.

Anyone been watching?

I wasn't going to. I'm too old for this shit and from the trailers... shit it looked too.

But they repeated the first 2 last night and there was nothing else on.

First episode was much as I expected. Stereotypical bunch apart from one or two. Playing it up.
Then in the 2nd ep they seemed to let their guard down a bit and I thought there may be something in this.
Then the first "kiss off" happened and it all seemed to be a bit scripted and set-up to me...  So I don't know if I can be arsed any more.

No - only seen it being ‘reviewed’ on gogglebox. Too old for all that nonsense too. Won’t be watching.

Don't interest me. Can't be dealing with stereotypes. I think the gay community needs to claw back representation with a cross-mix, not camp as tits types.

I have been enjoying it so far - it's typical of most of these types of reality dating shows, not to everyone's taste but nice to see some gay guys on one for a change.

Personally, in relation to the comments above, I have no interest in the stereotypically macho, 'straight-acting', "no fems" gays. There is nothing wrong with camp and it does nothing to set back the community. Camp gays, along with lesbians and trans women, were literally the ones who started the Stonewall uprising in the late 60s and who you can now thank for much of your freedoms today.

Nobody mentioned anything about stonewall or trans or lesbians, literally only said they sick of stereotypes, which is understandable, because people thing gays are a bunch of flamers, which we all aren’t, I’m glad I’m not a flamer. Not everything needs to be a history lesson minty.

Agree, there’s so much more to gay people than arm waving and screaming. I’m glad tv shows and movies are showing that not all gays are fems.

I too am glad that TV shows and films are starting to show a broader variety of gay people to demonstrate that we're not all a certain way. But it saddens me that many in our own community would seem to prefer to hide the more flambouyant members behind closed doors and insist they are not representative. Like it or not, plenty of gay men are camp or effeminate and that is perfectly fine.

You can be happy you're not a 'flamer' if you wish, but that just seems a bit sad to me.

camp flamboyant gay men are represented in the media more than enough and for the longest time, thats the point people are making, not all gay men are fem and thus tv and films need to show that more, nobody is asking to hide away anybody behind closed doors, representation of one group does not mean the other is forgotten. And frankly i don't care that you think im sad because im happy not being camp, Or am i not allowed to be happy being masc in your agenda bubble ?

You know that Minty is totally going to enter your responses in the 'unsupportive' column of his spreadsheet.

Can we try not to make this a pile on Minty thread and just accept I am allowed to express my opinions as well? And, some of the coolest and funiest people I've met were flamers.

Of course you are allowed your own opinion but you also don’t need to turn everything people say into a social justice issue.
