It's OK to be woke
In fact, being woke is good.

Strange how its always right wing views that are 'free will' and 'freedom of speech' whilst left-wing views are always 'extreme' or 'woke'

Don’t remember saying anything freedom of speech, everybody is welcome to say what they want, and I don’t remember saying anything about left or right either. See what I mean about labels, if you don’t agree totally then you are labels a right winger.

Is it an accountability thing?

So why aren’t the woke brigade concerned about vote suppression during the elections?? That is something to legitimately be woke about (and something I support myself).

Did you also know that postal votes are being changed, so if you currently have an indefinite postal vote, it will need to be renewed every 3 years?? Something else to watch out for.

Not sure how you have managed to take another typical Tory tactic of manipulating the voting system to protect their own arses, and turned it into what you think is a cudgel with which to beat the 'woke brigade'. Similar to their redrawing of constituency boundaries to favour their own heartland supporters, you don't need to be woke to understand that the Tories are a dishonest bunch of Eton school chums who simply line their own pockets and those of their rich backers, who are only keen for power at the expense of regular people.

I don’t think you’ve understood my point - which is that it affects everybody.

Even if you disagree with someone’s politics, you shouldn’t disagree with their ability to vote how they wish.

I understand you perfectly, and I'm a fool for replying to you.

Unless I’m mistaken, this is very much the job of the Boundary Commission.
Boundary Commission Wrote:Parliamentary Boundary Commissions are ‘arms length’ public bodies. This means they are ‘sponsored’ by a UK Government department (in our case, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities), but are outside of direct Ministerial control. The sponsor department provides funding and other resources (staff, accommodation, IT infrastructure, and often other ‘back office’ support), and monitors that those resources are being utilised appropriately and efficiently.

However, Government Ministers and officials have no direct input or control over the substantive work of the Commissioners in the reviewing of constituencies and development of proposals and recommendations for change: decisions on those matters are taken by the independent Commissioners, working within a legislative framework of rules established by Parliament.
Are you saying they’ve been stuffed with Tory supporters?? Or do you not like facts to get in the way of a good story?? Exclamation

You’d need to provide a lot more evidence to support that, apart from a few headlines. If it’s not written down in legislation, it’s not illegal as such. Contravening a unwritten moral code isn’t against the law either.

Out of curiosity, why do you post these debatable topics if you actually aren’t willing to debate them with those of differing opinions.

I have plenty of history debating in the topics I post, as you well know RyCamp. But equally, I've learned enough now about the 'debate' styles of you and Jumbler to not bother engaging in a useless tit-for-tat exchange that goes nowhere. Everybody knows yours and my opinions on these matters, what's the point in shouting across a void at each other?

My underlying point was that fighting voter suppression is a woke issue - of the good kind. An issue that everybody should be fighting for.

Unlike others which are more concerned about providing disproportionate amounts of rights/protection to niche (or undeserving) groups.

And lots of people are fighting for it- what’s your point?

Also I’ll bite - since you’ve decided it’s an either/or issue please tell us precisely who it is that’s /not/ highlighting the voter surpression issue that is arguing FOR (and PRECISELY which) rights / protections which are being disproportionately afforded to which groups and PRECISELY why are they “undeserving” and when / where / how was it decided who would be the ultimate arbiters that they were “undeserving?”

Which members of the woke brigade have not objected to the Tories [secondhand, previously owned by the US Republicans] voter suppression please?

A post from The Democratic Coalition:

Quote:Knuckle-dragging Republican presidential hopefuls are vowing to wage a war on "woke," but a new USA TODAY/Ipsos Poll finds a majority of Americans are inclined to see the word as a positive attribute, not a negative one.

Fifty-six percent of those surveyed say the term means "to be informed, educated on, and aware of social injustices." That includes not only three-fourths of Democrats but also more than a third of Republicans.

The findings raise questions about whether Republican campaign promises to ban policies at schools and workplaces they denounce as "woke" could boost a contender in the party's primaries but put them at odds with broader public opinion in the general election.
