Why is the emergency tone played for a test?? This is probably what wound a lot of people up. I turned all my phones to 3G, because I didn’t want to be blasted by them - they’re only a few cms away.
That apart, the Government admits alerts should not be used to warn of terror alerts (increases panic, and false alarms). So it’s only really to be used for storms, gales, fires etc. Or maybe the odd Covid-style alert.
Another thing: this is old technology. Cell broadcasts have been around as long as the GSM system itself (30 years). So why haven’t we developed this system before now??
