Are you typing on a phone because I don't think the forums support that kind of smiley. You have to use the built-in smileys, either by selecting them from the frame to the left of each post or by typing in the shortcut.

Just a test, please ignore.
So 2 byte UTF8 are fine, and it supports 3 byte Chinese given the spammy post deleted earlier... just extended emoji isn't

You've been running websites for nearly as long as I've been alive... I reckon you know really.
Unless you're just the pretty front man...

Lets start again.
First you said all smilies are turning into question marks. Then you can't see the smilies popup (?) Then you typed : - / which did work.
So what exactly isn't working?
So we can get to the bottom of it for you.

I suspect that he's using emoji characters directly, from his phone keyboard. Some software along the route doesn't like them and is replacing them with question marks
All he needs now is a list of the codes
and what emoji they produce.

The old board was completely different software.
Think of the old board as a Commodore 64
This is a Dragon 32

2 byte and 3 byte characters are fine, 4 byte characters are not (which most emoji are), MyBB does support 4 byte characters as long as the database collation etc is set properly, so it's either an unintentional database issue or Tiuri has decided he doesn't want to see all our weird emoji all over the place.

Nothing to do with me, I'm just a lowly mod I'll mention this to Ladsnet

Like I said, they seemed to work fine on the old board, even if they appeared a little small on screen.
Hope you can figure out a solution.

I'll have a look when the next board software update comes along but at present all I can suggest is you use the smilies we provide.
Like that one
