I seem to remember a very sad film about an immunocompromised girl where Nick was literally the next door twink.

I think he only passes as a teenager because we are so used to 25 year old actors playing 16-18 on US TV. But, hell, whatever gets him on my screen is good!

What's the show about?

The series is based on Hannah Fidell's 2013 film. Basically it is about an English teacher (played by Kate Mara) who has a relationship with her 18 year-old student who she is tutoring for his SATs.

Interesting you mention adult actors playing teens because Robinson's character joked that one of his high school friends looked 30, which I did chuckle at.

I think in the series he's still 17, which changes everything. It depends on the state but in the US generally the consensual age for sex is 18. While a relationship between an 18 year old and a much older woman would be seen as risky and wrong and all that, it would still be within the realm of legality ( I do remember a known actor whose name cannot be said here, but he went on this relationship with this much older woman. He was 19, she was 42, in spite of this, they're still together). But if he was 17 it'd be a much different story because legally it would be considered a crime, like grooming or child abuse.

In the UK, you can take 2 years off that, unless it’s a “position of trust” job (e.g. teacher, cop, nurse, social worker). In France, you can take off 3 years.

Additionally, being that his character is 18 that is technically legal. I haven't watched the show, but student/teacher relationships are generally frowned upon. I remember a case some time back when a college professor who had an affair with a student that was 19, she was over the age of consent, but he lost his job because his contract specifically said not to have relationships with students. There is a power and abuse issue too. This show looks interesting, aside from Nick being hot in it, if I had to bet based on the tv previews I've seen of it, has to do more with trauma and dealing with the consequences of this power situation.
