Christmas
Is it just me that hates it?
#1
Is it just me that hates this time of year? I loathe all the false jollity & pressure piled on people to buy things they can't afford.  I'm escaping for 4 days to a hotel that doesn't celebrate xmas

Roll on January 2!

I don't hate Chriistmas, but I don't really celebrate it as I have no living family that I want anything to do with at all and I have no money to do anything anyway that is remotely festive. Christmas isn't much of a thing for poor people in the US most of the time, except for the religious zealots.

I don't hate Christmas but, not being religious, I don't particularly bother with it. It's often a good opportunity to catch up with various people and to eat too much chocolate: beyond that, its not important.

You can make Christmas to be anything that you want.  You don't have to get sucked into the whole commercialization spiel if you don't want to (which I find to be very un-Christian).

Christmas, at its best, is an uplifting time of year, its joy you can find in whatever way suits you.  Take the parts that you like, ignore the parts that you don't.  You don't even have to be Christian, or even religious for that matter.  My (devout) Muslim friend appreciates being wished a Merry Christmas.  (There is no Muslim holiday this time of year)

For myself, I enjoy going to concerts this time of year (think: Handel's "Messiah").  But as it turns out, I've been so busy that I haven't accomplished even that.  Next week (between Christmas and New Year's) I'm invited to a party in the spirit of this festive season (no gifts, just good company and good food - and a Christmas tree!).  Then on NYE I'm invited to another party (knowing the host there will be a Christmas tree there too!  haha!!).  For me seeing friends at these parties fills the bill for this festive time of year; re-charging with positive energy going into the new year.

Merry Christmas to all.
