Can't blame Musk for trying. LOL

Elon Musk reportedly told Twitter employees that the company could face bankruptcy next year.

Maybe it's time to kill your account and go elsewhere.
(I don't have one)

I think he is just putting the fear of gods into them to try to get them to play ball.He invested too much money to let the company fail. His investors and backers as well as his bank balance would loose too much money.

Apparently he's told twitters thousands of staff around the world (admittedly half the number there was 2 weeks ago and falling by the day) that there's no more working from home unless its approved by him personally on a case by case basis.

He makes Willy Wonka look sane.

All 3 of the top privacy/compliance executives quit overnight.

A couple of weeks ago I thought there's no way this could actually be the end of twitter. Now I'm not so sure.

Meanwhile the company is running a negative cash flow.
(and Tesla is in a slump too)

Quote:Twitter appears to have paused its $7.99/month Blue subscription service, which allowed people to pay for a verification check mark, after users were abusing it to impersonate brands and famous people.

Twitter launched the service earlier this week in its iPhone app, allowing users to buy a checkmark that had previously been used to show that an account was verified or official. As of Friday, the iPhone app no longer shows an option to sign up for Twitter Blue.

People abusing a loophole, well, I never saw that coming Cool

I think twitter has always run a negative cash flow.

I read an article this morning but can't remember where now to quote directly.
Basically it was saying that, probably cos he lives in detached billionaires world, he doesn't really 'get' what twitter is (or was).. he just saw a massive global tech firm that he saw/people told him was 'cancelling' the right wing and he should buy it and impose free speech.

Its never going to make money. And if you allow the right wing nutters to just post what they want, most of its core audience will just desert it.

Everything he does is making the situation worse because he doesn't get it at all.. and he's that used to people telling him he's brilliant at everything, he believes it.

Short of him offloading it at a massive loss (to Meta/Facebook ?) or trying to refloat it publicly, I can't see a way out.
If he keeps trying to 'Elon Musk' it, it will go the way of Myspace.

Still.. I'm sure he thought turning up carrying a sink was hilarious.

I wouldn’t lose sleep if Twitter crashed and burned. As someone else posted, it is a site where people express their own points of view. But lately it’s descended into woke current affairs and causes, opinionated views and related bullshit. So it bears a lot more relation to Facebook, which I quit ages ago.

I actually use Twitter to follow “gay stuff” (gay guys and fm’s I’m interested in), but every visit you see “What’s Trending” on the right hand side, and it’s so far removed from what I actually want to see. It’s annoying, and very hard to filter out.

You’d basically have to sit and block tags you never want to see again. And even that doesn’t work very well. Start all over again, and allow users to choose what tags and suggestions they want to see.

I really think that Musk is in over his head with Twitter.  He has no idea what he's doing and the only thing that he's accomplished there so far is chaos and confusion.

Experience shows that companies in that position don’t last too long. Maybe he’ll have to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Wink

Quote:Elon Musk has given Twitter’s remaining staff a Thursday deadline to commit to working “long hours at high intensity” and being “extremely hardcore” or else leave with three months’ severance pay.

Certainly illegal under EU and UK (for now) employment law I would think.

The man is a dick.

Who on Earth would want to work in a place like that (unless there are no other choices)? Sad There may indeed be a dearth of options for tech workers with other Silicon Valley companies (Apple, Microsoft, Meta) laying off tens of thousands of workers. Surely Musk has noticed. Wink

Sournds very Trumpian.

Is this an early sign of the plutocracy intensifying its yoke on the working class?  Will others follow?  (In some sectors here that has been the norm for years.  Young recent grads are often willing to put in two years of grueling hours at Goldman Sachs, and others, just to have it on their resumes, if they survive the bornout. I read of one case a few years ago when a young intern died from exhaustion.)

Now he’s locking the staff out

He's like a more mental Citizen Kane.

Rumours (on twitter obv.) are that hardly any staff agreed to his 'work harder or fuck off' ultimatum and thus, if he goes through with it and fires them, they won't have enough staff left to actually run twitter any more.

almost 1 million Twitter accounts have cancelled since Musk took over.

Around 1200 staff have not accepted his demand to work harder and will be 'let go'

Back to the original post.. and thinking about the Citizen Kane reference...

Is Musk a nutjob who got rich?
Or did the billions turn a sane man into a nutjob?
