Inevitable, predictable, yet somehow still devastating news.

To my great surprise I found myself crying!

Quite an important one in a way, though not one of our most successful. Did you know, that having cut one King Charles's head off we then invited his son, also Charles, to come back? Our brief flirtation with republicanism was not a great success. But James VII & II, son of one Charles and brother of the second, is much more important as unsuccessful kings go.

Still not used to the "K word" .

They'll remain. Postboxes from Victoria's reign are not uncommon. And, amazingly, there are even some dating from Edward VIII's reign.

Coins will stay too. It's been very dull since we went decimal. It was fun finding a coin featuring a long-dead monarch in one's change.

If you changed the ‘E’ to ‘C’ and ‘VIII’ to ‘III’, I imagine that’s what you’ll end up with.

Wow. That really is that rare thing, an E viii R post box

Definitely. I remember as a boy, collecting or swapping as many shilling and florin pieces as I could find. I managed to get £1 worth of them, and surprisingly, many were from George VI’s time. And that’s 30 years ago.

Indeed. I’ve always been fascinated by his reign, as Abdication Day was on my birthday.

Also during his reign, the first 12-sided 3d (three pence) coin was commissioned. Find one today, it’s probably worth more than £50k. But there’s only 12 of them. Wink I believe Canadian cent coins had been struck, but they were never released due to the abdication, and were melted down.

Does anybody know if they gave her an extra push at the end to make the news cycle like they did to her grandfather George V?

BBC 2 is sorta normal, in that it's showing normal tv

BBC 1, itv/stv, Channel 4 (for most of the day) and Channel 5 - Those are showing her.
Probably get next week for shitty tv programmes about Liz II.
New programmes and repeats. Maybe get films about her life shown too.

They did it once.  Who's to say they won't do it again.
I'm not the insensitive one.

These last few posts just once again illustrate the problem with this forum.  A newbie posting insensitive shite about our Queen would have been rounded on in an instant.  But when one of the clique decides to spout off their immature rubbish all the usual sycophants join in.  Even the webmaster favours a certain few and that's really not a good look.

Our Queen served this country for over 70 years, working every single day since she took on the role.  She will remain a historical icon forever.  That's why she deserves our respect and not the flippant comments about bloody football matches and whether or not someone bumped her off early.  As Thumper said, if you can't say anything nice, fuck off.

OK. The webmaster is definitely not 'in on this'. I too am sick to the back teeth of every topic in the discussion forums being ruined by the same old faces.

It ends here and now.

If you've nothing nice to say, go to the picture forums and enjoy yourself there instead.

Some people do not support the royal family - either the institution itself or its individual members - and find the enforced period of mourning for a 96-year-old a little hysterical. This is life, it's called having different opinions and - guess what - it's that freedom of speech that conservatives are so fond of supporting...when it suits them.

If the tone of grief on FMF isn't to your liking, you can always turn on the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, or Sky or read the Mail, the Sun, the Times, heck even the Guardian if you want "respectful", non-critical, non-thinking coverage. You're hardly short of options.

I accept that some people are not massive royalist and "find the enforced period of mourning for a 96-year-old a little hysterical". Fair enough.

Posts asking whether she was euthanised and slagging her off for sponging off the state and doing nothing for the LGBT community (FFS)..
Sorry. Not having it. There's a time and place. This thread is not it.

Please accept my apologies for lumping you in with the rest ladsnet.  I've had an emotional week even before the death of the Queen and it got the better of me.  Thank you for displaying your support for this remarkable woman.  The general feeling of the whole country shouldn't be tarnished by the small mindedness of what is essentially a bunch of trolls.
