House of the Dragon
#1
Before the first season of Game of Thrones, I was excited and very much looking forward to watching the show.
Now that House of the Dragon is about to start, I don't feel the same way at all. I'm honestly not very interested. I'll probably watch it at some point but I'm not even sure about that. Any other GoT fans who aren't all that bothered about the new show?

I think the time has passed for GoT fandom. Under examination, you see the glaring flaws of the entire series and it becomes more average. Even if it's good, I can't see the new series going several years.

ALL THAT SAID, if they do other prequels I'm auditioning to be Young Tywin and no one will stop me.

Cornish businesses went through hoops to enable the series to complete filming, as an alternative location, during the pandemic, sadly some of the cast and production team have been less than complementary to some locations and the help received.

Unfortunate.

Worked in broadcasting with the people that showed it when it started; was such a great thing to talk about n the office, to watch the ratings come in, to get the free T-shirts and easter eggs in the forms of dragon egg. And also, enjoyed the FUCK out of it.

The lot of us laughed at how badly it ended, and I just could not the ARSED giving it a second chance.

Absolutely loved the original. Except the last season obviously which was just an embarrassment.

I'll give this a go, but not really wowed by the clips so far.... Matt Smith really gets on my tits in most things.... and I read in the Guardian that due to 'me too', a lot of the outrageous raping and incest has been removed.

Rape was always the lowest, most uninspired idea the original series had. They added so much that wasn't in the source material that it was right to call out. It's also just...not necessary to the storytelling. Certainly not graphic depictions of it.

Incest, on the other hand, was part of a genuine critique of the practice. It's also a lot less graphic since, presumably, the actors are never related.

I know he was a Dr. Who, but does Matt Smith ever have charisma? He always seems wooden and far from the best choice for any role he's played. Except Philip.

I liked him in "Christopher and His Kind".

He was good as Doctor Who. The roles he plays whether an alien, an artificial intelligence a psychopathic vampire or an evil prince are not roles that would require that much emotion. Maybe it's your expectations that are wooden or not the best choice.

I'm certain this was probably felt both ways to be honest.

I don't think I've seen a single reply from you on here where you haven't made a little nasty dig or snide comment as part of it.

Lets be nice and stop that now eh?

About a year ago I got the first disk for Game of Thrones from Netflix to see what the excitement was all about.  Maybe I would like it.  (I heard that there are some good sex scenes)  Watched the first couple of episodes.

Sleepy

Haven't watched another episode since.  But reading the above maybe I'll give it another chance.

Having watched the first episode now, I think I'll keep going. Smith was pretty good actually. The oddest part was it didn't feel at all like the first episode of anything. Not much GRABBED me. Not even seeing the Iron Throne or the Red Keep again. Couldn't give less of a shit about some Starks being around but I'm sure a bunch of chuds will.

Interested to hear what you're all thinking.
