Tucking t-shirt in
Fashion
#1
So.. although I've been out of the fashion loop since Man at C&A closed down, I've been noticing this year t-shirts being tucked into trousers/shorts now rather than 'hanging loose' over them.

Is this a thing now ?

If it's a thing, it's a disgusting thing and it should be stopped #SpokenByAnotherOldMan

I HATE IT. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S DONE WITHOUT A BELT. OH MY FUCKING GOD.

Yep it's a thing, some guys can pull it off, most can't. Looks weird imo

I think it looks weird even on the fit model types.

Whether that's cos I've had a lifetime conditioning of it being WRONG or not, I don't know.

I haven't noticed with all of the guys walking around in shorts in this summer weather my eyes go straight to the legs.
I'll take notice now. Thanks for pointing it out.

Where I grew up, you were taught to only tuck in a formal shirt that buttoned up the front.

It was always the "done thing" to wear a t-shirt tucked in during the 1980s I'm sure. It was only when Baggy and Grunge came along we all untucked and went casual.

Now I'm of an age where the untucked look is definitely the one for me,  LOL

I don't remember that at all. A quick google for 80 men's fashion isn't really proof, but there's not a tucked in t-shirt in sight.

Allow me to present the definitive word on 1980s fashions,  Wink

With a jacket it's a different story (that adds formality).
Jeans or shorts with t-shirt (and no other upper garment) I don't recall ever seeing that tucked in.
Still have to look around here (my eyes are trained after so many years to look at the crotch and legs).

Did I live through a different 1980s to everyone else?  LOL

I've never been conscious about fashion so don't remember that about the 1980s.

Today I was about town and saw scores and scores of guys wearing t-shirts (with no other upper garment) and all had the shirt NOT tucked in except for a count of THREE who were tucked in.
Such is the fashion in these parts these days.

Yeah, the 1980s also gave us Reagan and AIDS (and me). Let's not hold them up as any sort of beacon. Tongue

I'm with Parsi if it's with trousers and a jacket. That's different. I flirted with tucking in earlier this year and if you have any kind of tummy, well, you're not doing yourself any favors.

I'm only just getting on board with pulled up long socks and trainers, can't even bring myself to wear them with sliders or sandals. Tucked in t-shirts isn't for me anytime soon. Started heading back to the pub a bit more now and the amount of people who dress like they're still at home watching Netflix. Saw one girl wearing actual bedroom slippers, in the middle of town. Maybe age is catching up on me.

To expand this...
Having seen a load of 'yoofs' on breakfast TV this morning a couple more fashion items popped out at me.

White ankle socks taking over from 'invisible' trainer socks. (like cochineal says I think)

Denim shorts (albeit, knee length). Are these really 'in' now ?? Denim? Shorts?

For men of a certain age, I’d say yes!

There's nothing wrong with good looking guys wearing Denim shorts only. Didn't know that Denim shorts was going to be frowned upon on a site like this. Learn something new everyday.

Yeah like lower calf, def no higher than mid-calf. First noticed it maybe over a year ago wasn't keen, now I really like the look. Still have to be white or mostly white and only with trainers. Taron Egerton could be standing in nothing but socks and sandals and I'd say no (actually that's not true, Taron has the cheeky charm to get away with basically anything).

I don't really know if denim shorts ever went out of fashion. It seems like I've always had a pair, just got some new ones this year from Primark.
