Scottish First Minister race - Jasper - 26-02-2023 She is leading her Muslim rival Humza Yousaf by 2% in the latest polling of SNP members. Will the SNP finally lose its claim to be a socially progressive party if they elect Forbes to lead them, and Scotland? RE: Scottish First Minister race - ladsnet - 26-02-2023 From what SNP parliament members have been saying it would certainly send the party into a Tory style 'yellow on yellow' tearing itself apart period. To go from a very liberal party to one led by a god bothering nutjob is quite a leap. RE: Scottish First Minister race - Ollie2UK - 27-02-2023 I'm curious why someone with such reactionary views would join a progressive party in the first place. I suppose it's more understandable with the SNP where the goal of independence might be considered worth the price of admission, but when I look at the Labour party, I really struggle to work out how some of their MPs ended up in a left wing party. Particularly when they just want to move it to the centre/right. They could have just joined the Lib Dems ![]() RE: Scottish First Minister race - Parsifal - 27-02-2023 I don't know anything about her. What are her positions on Scottish independence and the E.U./Brexit? Macron is barely hanging on and now we're losing Nicola. Then over here we're banning abortions and even miscarriage and drag and trans people. Fucking sucks. How was Sturgeon responsible for the trans prisoner controversy manufactured by the hard right? Because it's not down to the law she championed since it's not, you know, the law without royal assent. I'm also curious where you imagine cis women who assault other women or children are imprisoned - also in the men's prison? Nice "logic" pretzel you twisted into being just there. The trans rapist's place of incarceration had nothing to do with a law that's never been in effect, nor was it a decision made by Sturgeon personally. There's a prison service who make that decision, and a Justice Secretary who oversees it.(04-03-2023, 06:05 AM)Jasper Wrote:(28-02-2023, 12:22 PM)John Wrote: Did you even know who Nicola Sturgeon was pre trans rapist in a women's prison drug fuelled episode of hers? Heinrich had likely discovered Nicola Sturgeon because of the trans rapist drug fuelled episode of hers. Scottish independence isn't going to attract LGBT fans from another country. RE: Scottish First Minister race - jdcyl - 10-03-2023 Sturgeon has appeared in TV news stories here on this side of the pond since well before Brexit. Scottish nationalist party wins big in elections -> pundits talk about what might that mean for Scottish independence. It’s kinda obvious. The same line of talk was followed with the Brexit result: Scotland voting to remain when non-urban England voted for Brexit. Then again with Nicola Sturgeon’s announcements regarding Covid contrasting with Boris Johnson’s. What hasn’t gotten coverage is ‘rapist drug fuelled’ episode. If you have an evidence-based argument, make it. Trying to create a tenuous link between Sturgeon and an unsubstantiated, disproven smear doesn't count. Ever thought perhaps that's why your comment has zero likes? RE: Scottish First Minister race - Barry - 18-03-2023 I resigned my membership following the treatment of Joanna Cherry . The whole self ID debacle has been a mess of Sturgeons own making and she only has herself to blame, in terms of the current leadership I hope Ash wins but I see either Kate or Humza getting in. The party needs to spend some time in opposition and the current implosion is the best thing for it. RE: Scottish First Minister race - Jasper - 27-03-2023 Humza Yousaf has won the election to become the SNP's next leader, but by only a slim majority of 52% (on second preferences). I guess the SNP is not nearly as progressive as it makes itself out to be if Scotland was only 200+ votes away from getting the candidate whose social positions are further to the right than the Tories. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-65086551 RE: Scottish First Minister race - ladsnet - 27-03-2023 But of course the right think that a 52/48 win is a landslide RE: Scottish First Minister race - Kernow - 28-03-2023 (27-03-2023, 10:47 PM)ladsnet Wrote: But of course the right think that a 52/48 win is a landslide Haha yeah that’s true! Does anyone else find it tiring that our parliamentarians don’t seem to understand we elect a party not a prime minister, so why were the SNP saying Rishi doesn’t have a mandate since taking over. Surely they are now in the same situation? |
